HAIKOU, China, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Sugeng Prasetyo of Indonesia scored five victories in a row as the "Belt and Road" 2017 Hainan Chess Open concluded its fifth round matches in Sanya, South China's Hainan province on Thursday.
Prasetyo defeated Xu Yang of China to keep his record intact, taking the sole lead with five points against other players.
Chasing behind are four players with four points apiece, namely China's Wen Yang, Bai Jinshi, Zhang Lanlin and India's Sandipan Chanda.
After a day's off, the second half of the Hainan Chess Open will start on Saturday.
Kicking off on Dec. 17, the Hainan Chess Open will run till Dec. 26, featuring some 500 players from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, New Zealand, the United States, Ukraine and host China to vie for a total prize of 3500,000 RMB (about 57,000 US dollars).
